What I’ve Learned

December 14, 2009 at 5:04 am (Uncategorized) (, )

What i’ve learned after being in this class is my own style of writing.  I feel so confident in my writing now and I am able to easily blend information together.  It is very beneficial to me in my career and i think it will carry me far.  The best part about this class was peer review.  It helped me find mistakes in other peoples papers and easier to find things in mine.

My research paper, I believe was a success.  I really feel confident in my work and my research.  I blended everything together well thanks to the help of the synthesis.  I used my quotes to the best of my ability and made it make sense.  It was a good start off research paper for my career.  I feel good about it.

The Ultimate Paper of All Papers – THE RESEARCH PAPER

November 19, 2009 at 3:15 am (Uncategorized) (, )

THe research paper has been a struggle for me.  It is breaking me down mentally.  I found myself contradicting myself, getting my arguements and ideas confused, having trouble organizing it, and many other negative things going wrong with the paper.  However, i continued to be persistant at fighting through it and i feel as though i have produced a successful paper so far.  Still have a lot to write, but i feel more focused and on task then in the beginnning, and a lot less stressed.

Synthesis

November 9, 2009 at 4:29 am (Uncategorized) (, )

My synthesis came together in the end very well thanks to the steps we learned in class.  I learned how to put multiple ideas together and use them logically in a way that i can explain to the reader.  For my synthesis i did an informative style.  I had to put all ideas into a logical order and that had to do with the same topic.  It was difficult, but thanks to the in class discussions and peer reviews i was able to successfully form a paper that had a clear purpose.

Love

October 23, 2009 at 12:15 am (Uncategorized) (, , )

In class we discussed one of the key purposes for writing a synthesis.  To explain the Discuss/Define style we used the word love.  I thought this was really interesting, because i didnt always think of how many different meanings a word can have.  Which made me recognize how there are so many other perspectives of a word from other people, so it makes sense to really clarify certain words for the reader to understand.  Love to me was said by someone in class, its strong feelings for a person and an emotional attachment.  However, i also think of it as caring and looking out for someones well being.  These two definitions are the first to pop into my head when i am writing the word love in my paper.  Therefore, if the reader does not think of love as these two meanings then i may be confusing them and not making my point in the paper.  Thus i will have to discuss and define the word love to back up and support my point.  The main point is you can’t assume the meaning of the word.

Differences Between MLA and APA Styles

October 14, 2009 at 1:33 am (Uncategorized)

During this reading i was opened up to a whole new writing style. I have always been taught and told to write in MLA format, but i did not know there were other styles of writing out there for papers to be used for college and on a proffessional level. It actually was quite confusing the way it was explained in the book. I found it easier to see the differences of these two styles in the Easy Writer. However, i was able to see only minor changes to the in-text citations, whereas in the full citations there were total changes to the way i was used to. In APA style i saw that it was much less specific in citing and working with sources. For instance, MLA needed the authors first name, APA only needed the first initial. Its mainly the way they abbreviate and use information differently. I would have a hard time adjusting to the way you underline, italicize or quotation titles of books, articles, or other things. Overall, even though i am so used to MLA format, i really like the way APA is styled and organized, it would help me keep things organized in my papers when handling sources.
